Dr. Simi Pushpan is a native of Desom, Aluva. Her graduation in B.Sc. Chemistry was obtained from U.C.College, Affiliated to M.G.University. She obtained her postgraduation in M.Sc. Chemical Sciences from Pondicherry Central University. Her Doctoral research work was done at Indian Institute of Technology, KANPUR (IITK) under the eminent supervision of Prof. Dr. T.K. Chandrashekar. Her Ph.D. thesis work entitled “Core Modified N-confused and Expanded Porphyrinoids: Syntheses, Characterization and Photodynamic Activity.” was selected for IUPAC Prize for Young Chemists for the year 2002 (One of the four recipients selected out of applicants worldwide).
Post doctoral Fellowship from the prestigious Alexander von Humboldt (AvH)Foundation funded her research work on carboplatin derivatives as anticancer agents under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Henri Brunner at University of Regensburg Germany. She acquired another postdoctoral experience in Pharmaceutical industry and worked as a Senior Research Scientist in Medicinal Chemistry division and Intellectual Property Management division of Orchid Research Laboratories Chennai for >5 years. She also gained experience as a Scientific Manager at BBRC (Biocon- Bristol Myers- Squibb Research Centre) for ~4 years. She joined the Department of Chemistry, U.C.College in 2013 March as an Assistant professor. She has over 23 publications in national and international publications and >13 patent publications. Her major research interests includes green synthesis of novel small molecule and porphyrinoid based privileged scaffolds having pharmacological activity. She is an approved Research Guide of Mahatma Gandhi University since June 2019.
